Ideally, we'd do it the other way around. We'd reason our way to conclusions. That, however, is hard work. It requires us to approach a subject objectively and with an open mind. It's much easier to reach a conclusion first and then come up with reasons why it's right. Which is what many people, on both the right and the left, tend to do.
