Bullying

I'm no great fan of Jim Rome, but there was nothing illegitimate about his question.  I don't think for a minute that the NBA rigs the draft lottery, but a lot of people do.  There was nothing wrong with giving the commissioner a chance to respond to that.

Rather than respond, however, David Stern chose to try to bully Rome, and all future interviewers, into not asking him the question.  He may well succeed at that.  However, that won't make the issue go away.  It would be in Stern's interest, and in the NBA's interest, to meet the issue head-on, rather than run from it.
