In the beginning, Aaron Sorkin created Sports Night, and it was good. Then, Sorkin decided he was an Important Writer with Something to Say. And everything he's created has gotten progressively worse since.
It is really hard to write a "message" show without beating people over the head with your message. Even M*A*S*H was a lot better when it focused on telling a story and let the anti-war message play in the background. The episodes in which the anti-war message was front and center were, by and large, the worst episodes of the show.
