Not his main point, not that government is the solution. The point he has is in the first paragraph. Democrats clearly believe that government is the solution, not just for the economy but for every problem that exists in the world. So, why not say that?
The answer, of course, is that they're afraid they'll lose the election if they do. Really, though, everyone knows that's what they believe anyway. Why not come out and own it? People who proudly stand for something are at least worthy of respect, even if they're wrong. More respect than people who'll just say whatever they think it takes to get elected, anyway.
